Fluid Retention occurs when there is an accumulation of fluid in the body tissues. IT is a natural process for fluid to move from the blood stream into body tissues. The lymphatic system then collects fluid and empties it back into the bloodstream. Fluid Retention results when the fluid isn’t removed from the tissues. This can be caused from not drinking enough water, or drinking the wrong type of fluid. Symptoms of fluid retention can include swelling of ankles and hands. Correcting our electrolyte balance, reducing alcohol, balanced exercise and rest and consuming the correct amount of fluid per day can help with the symptoms of fluid retention.
